Deciding on Flooring when Home Renovating

Homes, like everything else we own, sometimes get a little dated. Whether you’re looking to spruce it up to sell or you just want it looking fresh and revived, you may want to consider changing the flooring. But what type of flooring should you install? Today, let’s look at some of the pros and cons of different types of floors.

Carpeting

Pro: Unlike tile, linoleum or wood, carpet has that warm and furry feel to it. This can be great during the winter months. Carpet is also less expensive than many of the other flooring options which can make it desirable to have. However, carpet comes with a lot of negatives.

Con: If you have children or pets, there is a large chance that carpeting will get dirty or stained. It can also collect a lot of dust and dander, which is bad if you have allergies or a breathing condition. This can make carpeting very unappealing to install.

Wood Floors

Pro: Wood floors look sleek. They are aesthetically pleasing and possibly the most desired type of flooring for a home. They don’t require too much maintenance to clean, which is attractive. There are also many different types of wood which can give your home a different feel.

Con: Just like carpeting, if you have pets and children wood floors can get a lot of wear and tear. Claws from pets or moving around furniture can produce scratch marks. Wood can also become discolored if in a room where there is a lot of traction with dirty shoes.

Tile

Pro: Tile floors come in a wide variety of textures which means you can either use on specific type throughout the home or change it up room to room. Tiles can also come heated, which is perfect if you live in a cold climate. They are easy to clean which makes them useful.

Con: Tile can crack. Nothing looks worse than a broken tile floor in your home.

Linoleum

Pro: Linoleum floors are easy to install. They are fairly easy to upkeep with cleaning. They resemble tile or wood.

Con: Some linoleum flooring can look cheap. Linoleum can also tear which looks awful.

It is ultimately up to your taste and budget on what type of flooring to install in your home. A mixture of the various types of floors can look great throughout a home. Some flooring can be done by yourself, but it is vary labor intensive and you risk the possibility of it looking bad and wasting materials which means you’re wasting money.
