It’s never a good day when you go to turn on your bathroom faucet and SNAP! The handle breaks off. There you stand, trying to get a start on your day and now you are in need of a new faucet. What can be equally annoying is a faucet that constantly leaks. If you are in either of these predicaments, it’s time to replace that faucet.
Luckily for you, this is easier than you think. Below you will find the steps it takes to replace your bathroom faucet.
Installing the Bathroom Sink Faucet
Step One: Finding out the type of faucet you will need.
Remove your old faucet from your bathroom sink and the existing pop-up drain. Then measure from center to center of the two outer holes. If the distance is 6 or more inches, you will want to install a wide-spread faucet. However, if there is only four inches between the holes, you will require a center-spread or mini-wide-spread faucet.
Step Two: Secure the faucet on your sink
Using Teflon paste or tape, place this on the faucet stem. If your faucet requires a rubber gasket, install it on the base prior to inserting the faucet to the appropriate sink holes. Then secure the nuts holding down your faucet to the sink. You must then connect the supply tubes to the faucet stem. Then apply paste to the shutoff valve threads and tighten the coupling nuts to the faucet supply stem, being sure not to over tighten.
Step Three: Connect the Drain Housing to the Flange
Apply some caulk to the drain flange’s underside and press it into the drain hole. Then place the lock nut on the drain housing, placing the metal washer and the gasket on the housing. Screw the housing of the drain tightly on the flange, holding it steady.
Step Four: Place the Pop-Up Drain in Place
Put the pop-up drain in place while keeping the hole for the control pin towards the rear of the sink. Then set the drain rod into the hole of the faucet. Attach the connecting link to the faucet rod by tightening the attached screw. After making sure the pop-up and the drain rod is down, attach the bail lever to the connection link using a V-clip. This should allow the pop-up to go down whenever the lever is pulled up.
Step Five: Clean the Supply Tubes, Check for Leaks
Attach your new drain extension to the P-Trap. Remove the aerator from the faucet and clean the supply tubes by turning on the water. While the water is on, make sure to check for any leaks. Once you are certain there are no leaks, shut the water off and replace the aerator.
